Baffert Big Fan of Millions ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 21, 2008) -- Bob Baffert says racing needs more big days besides the Kentucky Derby and the Breeders’ Cup. That’s why the three-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer endorses events such as Saturday’s Sunshine Millions, offering $3.6 million to California-bred and Florida-bred horses competing at Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park. “It’s very big; it’s huge,” Baffert said of the Sunshine Millions, in which he sends out Prime Catch for the $300,000 Filly & Mare Sprint at Santa Anita. “Not only does it expose California racing more to East Coast trainers, it also puts more value on Cal-breds and Florida-breds, because I know when I go to sales, I look for horses I can run in the Sunshine Millions. It’s an event that gives you more options for a horse.” Meanwhile, Prime Catch will be
making more than a step up for Baffert when she runs in the Filly & Mare
Sprint at six furlongs. “It’s not a step up,” the trainer said. “It’s a
leap up.
