Deep Cal-bred Group in Filly & Mare Turf

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 20, 2008) – Top California-bred distaffers Nashoba’s Key, Somethinaboutlaura, Bai and Bai and Gentle Charmer square off in Saturday’s $500,000 Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf at Santa Anita.

Nashoba’s Key is by Silver Hawk, out of the Caerleon mare Nashoba, was bred by Williamson Racing, was foaled at Harris Farms and is owned by Warren Williamson. She has seven wins in eight starts, earnings of $972,090 and is coming off her only loss, a fourth in the Oct. 27 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

Bai and Bai is by Falstaff, out of the Fappiano mare Bai Shun, was bred by and foaled at Mares’ Nest and is owned by Robert and Beverly Lewis Trust. The $3,200 Northern California Yearling Sale purchase and six-time stakes winner has eight wins overall in 21 starts, earnings of $592,318 and is coming off a second in the Nov. 3 California Cup Matron.

Somethinaboutlaura is by Dance Floor, out of the It’s Freezing mare Crystals of Ice, was bred by Lilley Ranch is owned by Hollendorfer, Miller, Sikura and Todaro. She has 18 wins in 31 starts, earnings of $1,053,865 and has won seven of her last eight starts, all stakes. She was fifth in this race last year.

Gentle Charmer is by Bertrando, out of the Great Charmer mare Triple Charm, was bred by Marty and Pam Wygod, foaled at River Edge Farm and is owned by Curt and Lila Lanning. The $17,000 Barretts purchase has seven wins in 29 starts, earnings of $344,313 and is coming off a win in the Nov. 3 California Cup Distaff.

The highest-rated Florida-bred in the race is Quite A Bride.
