$250,000 Sunshine Millions Oaks ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 27, 2007) – Favored Mistical Plan, bottled up in traffic until the top of the stretch, found racing room in time to nail fellow California-bred Tiz Elemental at the wire to win Saturday’s $250,000 Sunshine Millions Oaks for 3-year-old fillies, presented by Pepsi, at Santa Anita. Mistical Plan is by Game Plan, out of the Bel Bolide mare Mistical Bel, was bred by Carol Anderson, is owned by Paul Reddam, trained by Doug O’Neill and was ridden by David Flores, who has taken this race three of its five runnings. “Around the turn, I was trying to follow the six horse (Tiz Elemental) and at the 3/16ths it opened up a little bit at the rail and we got through,” said Flores. “It was close, but I thought we won it.” Mistical Plan has three wins in seven starts, earnings of $235,765 and was coming off a third in the Jan. 6 Santa Ysabel, having earlier won the Cover Gal Stakes by 7¼ lengths at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meet in October. Mistical Plan won the Sunshine Millions Oaks by a nose over Tiz Elemental, as Double Major completed a Cal-bred sweep of the top three spots. Cal-breds won $217,500 of the $250,000 available purse. “It was very much a heartbreaker,” said Carla Gaines, trainer for Tiz Elemental. An April foal, Mistical Plan ran the six furlongs in 1:10.50 as the 2-1 favorite. For Mistical Plan’s pedigree, click: http://www.pedigreequery.com/mistical+plan
