Record Early-bird Noms for Sunshine Millions

ARCADIA, Calif. (Dec. 19, 2006) – A record 391 early-bird nominations were received for Sunshine Millions V, to be held Jan. 27, 2007 at Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park for horses bred in California and Florida.

The most nominations received were 63 for the $250,000 Sunshine Millions Oaks for 3-year-old fillies; the fewest received were 38 for the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff at Santa Anita. The total of 397 is up 29 from last year’s previous record.

Among the Cal-breds nominated for the $1 million Sunshine Million Classic at Gulfstream Park are Lava Man, Brother Derek and Texcess. Brother Derek and Lava Man were also nominated for the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Turf at Santa Anita. The Distaff could lure Somethinaboutlaura and Memorette.

Cambiocorsa was nominated for the $500,000 Sunshine Millions filly & Mare Turf at Gulfstream Park. The $250,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint drew the names of Breeders’ Cup Sprint champ Thor’s Echo and graded stakes winners Bordonero, Proud Tower Too and McCann’s Mojave. New Grade I winner Romance is Diane is among those nominated to the $250,000 Sunshine Millions Oaks, while Super Image is among those nominated to the $250,000 Sunshine Millions Dash.
