Cal-bred Trio With a Classic Shot

HALLANDALE, Fla. (Jan. 21, 2007) – The millionaire Texcess, a revitalized McCann’s Mojave and an improving Armenian Summer will represent California-breds in Saturday’s $1million Sunshine Millions Classic, presented by the Ocala Breeders Sales Company, at Gulfstream Park.

Texcess is by In Excess, out of the Regal Classic mare Danish Alamode, was bred by Ron Gomez and is owned by Anastasi, Anastasi and Van Burger. He has four wins in 21 starts, earnings of $1,235,335 and is coming off a win in the Oct. 28 California Cup Classic. The $300,000 Barretts purchase was third in this race last year and earlier won the Delta Jackpot.

Armenian Summer is by Siberian Summer, out of the Wall Street Dancer mare Three Star Casey, was bred by Special T Thoroughbreds and is owned by Janavar Thoroughbreds. He has two wins in nine starts, earnings of $92,940 and is coming off a second in the Jan. 6 San Pasqual Handicap.

Graded winner McCann’s Mojave is by Memo, out of the Nordic Prince mare Joni U. Bar and was bred by owners Alix Hunt and Mike Willman. He has nine wins in 23 starts, earnings of $624,955 and is coming off a win in the Dec. 26 Union Square. He was sixth in this race last year.

The leading Florida-bred contender is Sweetnorthernsaint, who finished fourth as the Kentucky Derby favorite.
