Hot Bordonaro Sprints to Florida

HALLANDALE, Fla. (Jan. 23, 2006) – Improving Bordonaro, the lukewarm morning-line favorite, and defending champion Red Warrior lead a four-horse California-bred contingent in Saturday’s $300,000 Sunshine Millions Padua Stables Sprint at Gulfstream Park.

Bordonaro is by Memo, out of the Rajab mare Miss Excitement and was bred by owner Fred Carillo. He has six wins in eight starts, earnings of $207,164 and is coming off a three-length win in the Dec. 3 Grade III Vernon O. Underwood Handicap.

Thor’s Echo is by Swiss Yodeler, out of the Mr. Integrity mare Helen of Troy, was bred by Fast Lane Farms and is owned by Royce S. Jaime Racing. He has three wins in 11 starts, earnings of $534,053 and is coming off a third in the Dec. 26 Malibu Stakes, having earlier won the WinStar Derby and Real Good Deal Stakes.

Areyoutalkintome is by Smokester, out of the Storm Bird mare Andrea Gail, was bred by John Toffan and Trudy McCaffery and is owned by Manzani and Sarno. He has seven wins in 26 starts, earnings of $547,507 and is coming off a third in the Dec. 4 On Trust Handicap, having won the Grade III El Conejo Handicap a year ago. The $10,000 Barretts purchase finished third in last year’s Sunshine Millions Sprint.

Red Warrior is by Benchmark, out of the Plugged Nickle mare Sparkling Nickle, was bred by Madera Thoroughbreds and is owned by Miguel Rubio. He has four wins in 17 starts, earnings of $324,095 and is coming off a sixth in the Jan. 2 El Conejo. He won this race last year.

The leading Florida-bred entered is Mister Fotis.
