Cal-breds Take Shot in Oaks

HALLANDALE, Fla. (Jan. 23, 2006) – Longshots Home Alona, Windy and Devons Smokin are the California-breds shipping to Gulfstream Park for Saturday’s $250,000 Sunshine Millions Ocala Stud Oaks for 3-year-old fillies.

Home Alona is by Game Plan, out of the Fraser River mare Easy Izzie, was bred by Wesley Ward and is owned by Ward and Pesci. She won her lone start Dec. 8 by two lengths.

Windy is by Wild Rush, out of the Incinderator mare Native Wind Dancer, was bred by Richard and Yvette Wira and owned by Gary and Mary West. She has one win in three starts, earnings of $31,095 and is coming off a fifth in the Dec. 28 California Breeders’ Champion Stakes.

Devons Smokin is by Devon Lane, out of the Smokester mare Smoked Glass, was bred by John Polster and is owned by Phillip Lebherz. She has two wins in six starts, earnings of $117,428 and is making her first start since winning the July 22 CTBA Stakes.

Florida-bred Knight’s Templar is the morning-line favorite at 7-2.
