Showdown in Distaff
HALLANDALE, Fla. (Jan. 23,
2006) – Millionaire Dream of Summer and Grade II winner House of Fortune
provide California breeders a solid 1-2 punch in Saturday’s $500,000
Ocala Breeders’ Sales Distaff for fillies and mares at Gulfstream Park.
Dream of Summer is by Siberian
Summer, out of the Skywalker mare Mary’s Dream and was bred by owner
James Weigel. She has 10 wins in 18 starts, earnings of $1,071,150 and
is coming off a second in the Dec. 11 Bayakoa Handicap. A Grade I
winner, she was third in this race last year.
House of Fortune is a Barretts
and Del Mar Yearling Sale graduate by Free House, out of the Garthorn
mare So Fortunate, was bred by John Treasure and is owned by Arnold
Zetcher. She has seven wins in 21 starts, earnings of $714,185 and is
coming off a win in the Dec. 4 Cat’s Cradle. She was eighth in this race
a year ago and would become a millionaire with a victory.
Defending champ Sweet Lips
leads the Florida-bred contingent..
