$500,000 Warren’s Thoroughbreds Turf
ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 25, 2005) – Heavyweights A to the Z and millionaire Continental Red lead the California-bred representatives in Saturday’s $500,000 Warren’s Thoroughbreds Turf at 1 1/8 miles on the Sunshine Millions card at Santa Anita.
A to the Z is a son of Benchmark, out of the Replant mare Green Again, was bred by Sentinel Thoroughbred Farms and is owned by Andy or Paula Capestro. He has four wins in 18 starts, including an impressive score in the California Cup Mile, and earnings of $329,165 after finishing second in his most recent race, the Grade I Citation Handicap.
Continental Red is a millionaire by Flying Continental, out of the Glaros mare Sharp Looking Lady, was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Wes Fitzpatrick and is owned by Sharon Fitzpatrick. He has seven wins in 65 starts and $1,198,358 in earnings. His last win was in the Quicken Tree Stakes, more than 18 months and 16 races ago. He is coming off a third in Jan. 1 San Gabriel Handicap.
Cheiron is by Maria’s Mon, out of the Wild Again mare Fortunee, was bred by The Thoroughbred Corp., and is owned by Noctis and Papiano. The Snow Chief Stakes winner is coming off a fifth in a Nov. 18 optional claimer and has $313,668 in earnings. He is coming off a fifth in the Dec. 26 Sir Beaufort, his turf debut.
Running Free is by Soft Gold, out of the Mukaddamah mare Baby Grand and was bred by owner Southern Nevada Racing Stable. He has four wins (including his last two allowance races) in 10 starts and earnings of $164,428, but is seeking his first stakes win.
Super Strut is by Lil Tyler, out of the Torsion mare Miss Chez Cheveaux, was bred by Madera Thoroughbreds and is owned by Class Racing Stable. He has three wins in 11 starts and earnings of $145,554 and lost an allowance race by a nose in his last start. He is looking for his first stakes win.
Skywalker Red is by Skywalker, out of the Flying Paster mare Beautiful Redhead, was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Barton Heller and is owned by David Beinstock. The $72,000 Barretts purchase is coming off a Nov. 28 allowance win, his third victory in 20 starts, with earnings of $202,148, and is looking for his first stakes win.
Sea Harbor is on the also-eligible list. He is by Slewpy, out of the Irish Stronghold mare Strong and Willing, was bred by James Beckett and owned by the Beckett Family Trust. He has three wins in 25 starts and earnings of $159,755 and is looking for his first stakes win.
