Cal-breds Will be Firing in
$300,000 Vinery Sprint

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 25, 2005) – Graded winner Areyoutalkintome and millionaire Full Moon Madness lead a field loaded with California-bred speedsters in Saturday’s $300,000 Vinery Sprint at six furlongs on the Sunshine Millions card at Santa Anita.

Areyoutalkintomean added the Grade III El Conejo Handicap to a resume that already included the California Cup Sprint. The son of Smokester is out of the Storm Bird mare Andrea Gail, was bred by John Toffan and Trudy McCaffery and is owned by Manzani or Sarno, who claimed him for $32,000 a year ago. He has six wins and five seconds in 15 starts with $349,292 in earnings. The $10,000 Barretts purchase also has a win in last year’s Real Good Deal Stakes.

Full Moon Madness is a 10-year-old by Half a Year, out of the Secretariat mare Soft Charm, was bred by John and Betty Mabee and is owned by Suarez, (Florida Marlins catcher Paul) Lo Duca and Schlesinger. He has 15 wins and $1,097,805 in earnings, but is winless over his last 11 starts with five seconds. He is coming off a second in a Dec. 15 $62,500 claimer. He broke his maiden in 1997.

Revello is by Memo, out of the Mamaison mare Lila Finn, was bred by Palisair Place and is owned by Jeffrey Sengara. He was claimed for $40,000 last year and is looking for his first stakes win. He has five career wins in 23 starts and earnings of $295,173.

Don’tsellmeshort is by Benchmark, out of the Siyah Kalem mare Miss Soft Sell, was bred by Mary Caldwell and is owned by Cecil Peacock. The $75,000 Barretts purchase is a multiple stakes winner of $402,365, but is winless since the Dec. 26, 2003 California Breeders Champion Stakes. He is coming off a sixth behind Areyoutalkintome in the El Conejo.

Green Team is coming off a win in the Dec. 11 Oakland Handicap at Golden Gate Fields in a sizzling 1:07.77 for six furlongs. He is by Huddle Up, out of the Moscow Ballet mare Scare Tactics, was bred by Harris Farms and is owned by Ferro Family Trust and trainer Jeff Bonde. The 5-year-old has 10 wins in 38 starts and $620,827 in earnings.

Bang is by Ballistic Billy, out of the Fast Play mare Ebony’s Fast Play, was bred by Michael Power and is owned by William Hedrick. He has won half of his 14 starts and $188,363 in earnings and is coming off a close third in the Jan. 11 Answer Do Stakes at Turf Paradise.

Bilo is by Bertrando, out of the Devil’s Bag mare Raffle’s Bag, was bred by Ed Nahem and is owned by King Edward Racing. He has never finished off the board in six starts with three wins, including his most recent Dec. 19 allowance score.

Red Warrior is by Benchmark, out of the Plugged Nickle mare Sparkling Nickle, was bred by Madera Thoroughbreds and is owned by Miguel Rubio. He has three wins in 12 starts and earnings of $131,520 but is looking for his first stakes win.

Greg’s Gold is by Lake George, out of the Fit to Fight mare Lady Windermere and was bred by owner Bill Boswell. He has a pair of wins in six starts and is coming off a fifth in a Dec. 30 allowance.
