In $250,000 Pepsi Oaks
ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 25, 2005) – Stakes winner Memorette will break from the rail as she leads a contingent of five California-bred 3-year-old fillies over six furlongs in Saturday’s $250,000 Pepsi Oaks on the Sunshine Millions card at Santa Anita.
After chasing Sweet Catomine and Splendid Blended in graded routes, Memorette appreciated the return to a sprint against state-breds and took the $140,875 California Breeders’ Champion Stakes Dec. 27. She is by Memo, out of the Shahrastani mare Forever Fondre, was bred by Oak Tree Farm and is owned by Betty Currin. That win was her second in six starts and raised her earnings to $158,325.
Short Route is by Mud Route, out of the Phone Trick mare Short Call and was bred by owner Herrick Racing. She won the Sept. 29 Cover Gal at seven furlongs, was fifth in the Oct. 16 California Cup Juvenile Fillies Oct. 16 and hasn’t raced since finishing second in the Nov. 21 Moccasin Stakes. In five starts she has two wins and $106,995 in earnings.
Coastal Strike is by Smart Strike, out of the Meadowlake mare Costa Rica and was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Larry Williams. She’s won both of her starts for $89,520 in earnings, but hasn’t raced since taking the Sept. 1 Generous Portion Stakes at Del Mar.
Yodeladytoo is by Swiss Yodeler, out of the Star de Naskra mare Little Jet Setter, was bred by Dahlberg Farms and is owned by Royalty Stable and Southern Comfort Stable. The $42,000 Barretts purchase won her debut, was fourth in the California Breeders’ Champion Stakes and most recently won a Jan. 12 allowance by two lengths. She has $66,424 in earnings.
Kohar is by Future Storm, out of the Tactical Advantage mare Shady Tactics and was bred by owner Triple B Farms. She broke her maiden in her sixth start Dec. 12 and most recently was third in the California Breeders’ Champion Stakes Dec. 27, giving her $55,525 in earnings.
The Florida contenders are led by Hello Lucky and Hot Storm.
