
Bear Fan Finds Few Foes
in
$300,000 Padua Stables Filly & Mare Sprint
HALLANDALE, Fla. (Jan. 25, 2005) – Multiple Grade II winner Bear Fan figures to be a heavy favorite as she leads the California contingent in Saturday’s $300,000 Padua Stables Filly & Mare Sprint at six furlongs on the Sunshine Millions card at Gulfstream Park.
Bear Fan is by Pine Bluff, out of the Shimatoree mare Shezalong, was bred by trainer Wesley Ward and is owned by Ward and Peter Fan. She has finished in the money 12 of her 13 career starts. Last year she had a four-race win streak that included three Grade II victories in the Barbara Fritchie, Genuine Risk and Vagrancy, but she has not raced since finishing second in the Grade II Princess Rooney July 10. She dead-heated for third in this race a year ago after a troubled trip. She has $686,125 in career earnings.
Cyber Slew is by Siberian Summer, out of the Slew o’ Gold mare Truly Golden, was bred by Kevin Carey and is owned by Rancho Ballena. She has six wins in 21 starts and is graded-stakes placed, but is looking for her first stakes victory. She has $327,215 in career earnings and is coming off a fourth in the Dec. 31 Monrovia Handicap.
Double Scoop ran off to a 10 ¼-length win in the Silver Bells Stakes at Calder Dec. 24. A $400,000 yearling purchase, she is by Seeking the Gold, out of the Theatrical mare Golden Treat, was bred by John and Betty Mabee and is owned by G. Watts Humphrey Jr. It was her sixth win in 14 starts, raising her earnings to $219,244. She has run at eight different racetracks.
Among the top Florida contenders is defending champion Mooji Moo.
