$500,000 Barretts/CTBA Distaff
ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 25, 2005) – Four graded winners are among the five California-breds that form a potent local representation entered in Saturday’s $500,000 Barretts/CTBA Distaff on the Sunshine Millions card at Santa Anita.
Del Mar Yearling Sales and Barretts graduate House of Fortune is by Free House, out of the Garthorn mare So Fortunate, was bred by John Treasure and is owned by Arnold Zetcher. She has six wins in 12 starts and $560,819 in earnings. Among her wins are the Grade II Fantasy Stakes and Hollywood Breeders’ Cup Oaks. This is her first start since a seventh in the Oct. 10 Spinster.
Alphabet Kisses is by Alphabet Soup, out of the Saratoga Six mare Kiss for Six and was bred by owner Harris Farms. She outdueled Elusive Diva, then held off favorite Bending Strings to win the Grade I La Brea Dec. 27 by one length at odds of 20-1. She ran the seven furlongs in 1:21 1/5 for her fifth win in nine starts, raising her earnings to $326,909. It was her first stakes win.
Dream of Summer is by Siberian Summer, out of the Skywalker mare Mary’s Dream and was bred by owner James Weigel. She had a five-race win streak snapped when she finished third in the Jan. 5 Kalookan Queen, her first race since winning the Oct. 16 California Cup Matron. She has seven wins (two graded stakes) and a second in 10 starts and earnings of $424,650.
Yearly Report is by General Meeting, out of the Half A Year mare Fiscal Year, was bred by Mr. and Mrs. John Mabee and is owned by Golden Eagle Farm. She has six wins in nine starts and $835,900 in earnings. She is coming off a 9 ¼-length win in the Stonerside Stakes, having won three Grade II events last year.
Mini Skirt is by Wild Again, out of the Summer Time Guy mare Summer Dress, was bred by owner The Hat Ranch West. She is coming off a Jan. 9 maiden win in her fifth start and has earnings of $37,580.
Among the top Florida-bred contenders are Sweet Lips and Fencelineneighbor.
