Cal-breds Attempt a Classic Replay in
$1 Million Ocala Breeders’ Sales Classic

HALLANDALE, Fla. (Jan. 25, 2005) – Cozy Guy and Lava Man, 1-2 finishers in the California Cup Classic, lead a five-horse California-bred contingent in Saturday’s $1 million Ocala Breeders’ Sales Classic, the 1 1/8-mile main event on the Sunshine Millions card at Gulfstream Park.

Cozy Guy is by Alphabet Soup, out of the Rambo Dancer mare Lambent, was bred by John Zamora and is owned by Mr. and Mrs. J. Hayes. A $40,000 claim out of his second lifetime start, he has six wins in 16 starts and $352,224 in earnings. He won the California Cup Classic and most recently was third in the Dec. 26 Sir Beaufort Stakes.

Lava Man is by Slew City Slew, out of the Nostalgia’s Star mare Li’l Ms. Leonard, was bred by Lonnie Arterburn, Kuhlmann and Kuhlmann and is owned by STD Racing Stable. Claimed for $50,000 in August, he has four wins in 18 starts and earnings of $260,603. In his last five starts he won the Derby Trial, was third in the Pomona Derby and was second in the California Cup Classic, On Trust Handicap and the Grade I Malibu Stakes.

Stockholder is by Bertrando, out of the Lyphard mare Pharapache, was bred by Marshall Naify Revocable Trust and is owned by Dapple Stables. A $60,000 Keeneland purchase, he is a full brother to graded winner Cliquot. He has four wins in nine starts and earnings of $148,500. He is coming off a second in a Nov. 25 optional claimer.

El Don is by Cee’s Tizzy, out of the Pretense mare Timed Perfectly and was bred by owners Harris Farms and Don Valpredo. He has three wins in eight starts and earnings of $106,722. He is looking for his first stakes win and is coming off a third in a Dec. 29 allowance.

Musique Toujours is by Musique D’enfer, out of the Inherent Star mare Starry Farrari, was bred by Jacquie Takaha and is owned by Lloyd DeBruycker. He has four wins in 18 starts and $176,320 in earnings. This is his first start since finishing third in an Aug. 29 allowance.

The top Florida-bred contenders include Midas Eyes, Supah Blitz and Second of June.
