Revello Wants Fast Track for Sunshine Millions

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 19, 2005) -- Ideal racing conditions for Revello in the $300,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint at Santa Anita on Jan. 29 would be the standard, “clear & fast.”

The 7-year-old bay gelding did not fancy the circumstances in the El Conejo Handicap in which he ran fourth of nine throughout the 5 ½-furlong race on Jan. 2.

“Unfortunately for us, there was a downpour a half an hour before the race,” trainer Ted H. West said. “The track was OK going in and I think the first four horses at the half-mile pole finished exactly in that order. I wasn’t disappointed with the way our horse ran. I was just disappointed with the way it unfolded, considering the track. But our horse is doing good and I think he’ll run a good race.”

West claimed Revello for $40,000 in March of last year. The California-bred son of Memo has never failed to earn a check in seven subsequent starts, never finishing worse than fourth.

“He looked like a horse that had shown ability in the past,” West said. “We thought if we could improve on him a little he could become a stakes horse. Memo seems like a very versatile-type sire.”

Revello has a 5-4-6 record with earnings of $295,173 for West’s principal client, Jeffrey Sengara of Delta, British Columbia.
