Don’t Sell Cozy Guy Short
For Sunshine Millions Classic

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 16, 2005) -- California Cup Classic winner Cozy Guy worked five furlongs on Santa Anita’s fast main track Saturday in 1:01.40 in preparation for the $1 million Sunshine Millions Classic at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 29. The 1 1/8 mile race is for 4-year-old and up.

“We gave him a nice, light little five-eighths yesterday,” trainer Dan Hendricks said. “It was a nice, smooth work. (Exercise rider) Luis Ortega thought he went great. He looked good doing it and it’s all go.

“Don’tsellmeshort will run in the Sprint at Santa Anita. He’s doing real well. I may work him (prior to the race) and I might not. I’m not sure. Both horses gallop so strong they don’t require a lot of workouts. Don’tsellmeshort is about three to four weeks into his race. He may work once. Cozy Guy had his one breeze. He may work back once more, I’m not sure yet.”

Hendricks said assistant Francisco Alvarado, brother of jockey Frank Alvarado, will go to Florida to gallop Cozy Guy and remain to saddle him for the Classic. “I’ll probably stay here with Don’tsellmeshort,” Hendricks said. “It makes it easier if we can split up.”

First post time at Santa Anita on Sunshine Millions day is 11:45 a.m. The festive eight-race program consisting of four races each at Santa Anita and Gulfstream matching California-breds against Florida-breds will be televised nationally on NBC from 1-3 p.m.

Regular nominations at $500 for the Sunshine Millions closed on Saturday. Pre-entries will be taken next Wednesday, while the post position draw is Jan. 24.
