Busy Sunshine Millions Day Planned

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 9, 2003) -- The festivities planned for Sunshine Millions Day at Santa Anita Jan. 25 range from a car giveaway to a Miss Hawaiian Tropic contest.

Santa Anita's first post will be at noon, followed at 12:15 p.m. by the first Sunshine Millions race from Gulfstream Park, then at 12:30 p.m. the first Sunshine Millions race from Santa Anita as Race 2. The remaining Sunshine Millions races at Santa Anita will go as Races 3, 4 and 5.

A Mystery Mutuel voucher will be sent to a select group of Thoroughbred members as part of a national Magna promotion giving away two $250,000 tickets and four $50,000 tickets.

All fans in attendance will receive a free Sunshine Millions sports visor and will be eligible to enter a drawing for a 2003 Lincoln Aviator, a $42,000 value. One winner also will receive a package to the 2003 Preakness Stakes.

Radio Stations KLOS-FM and KSPN-AM will host an indoor beach party in the Top o' the Stretch, with a live band.

A model search and beauty contest will be held at the beach party to select Miss Hawaiian Tropic Santa Anita, with the winner competing in later contests leading up to the International Miss Hawaiian Tropic contest in Hawaii.

Sunshine Millions Day cheerleaders will perform throughout the day on a stage on the apron west of the TV platform and a helium balloon with the Sunshine Millions logo will fly above the track.

The Long Beach Mounted Color Guard will perform the national anthem before the first race.

An opening ceremony will be held between Races 1 and 2 featuring skydivers landing in the infield, a marching band, cheerleaders and the arrival of Miss Sunshine Millions in a carriage.

The FrontRunner Restaurant will serve California- and Florida-themed food and beverages. The California Thoroughbred Breeders Association will hold its annual luncheon meeting in the restaurant throughout the day.

There will be special Sunshine Millions wagers to be determined, and the Daily Racing Form will hold a Sunshine Millions handicapping seminar in the new Baldwin Terrace Conference Center before and during the races, connected by speakerphone to a similar seminar at Gulfstream Park.
