96 Enter Sunshine Millions
The
Sunshine Millions Fields
ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 20, 2003) --
A total of 96 horses entered Monday for the $3.6 million, eight-race
Sunshine Millions, to be held Saturday at Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park.
Forty six California-breds entered,
including four in the $1 million Ocala Breeders Classic at Gulfstream
Park, led by Great State Challenge Classic winner Continental Red, who
drew the rail. Also planning to ship to Florida for a shot at the
million-dollar purse are Long Gone Con, Slippery When Bet and Grey Memo.
There are four Cal-breds in both
the $250,000 Padua Stables Filly and Mare Dash (Icantgoforthat, Warren's
Whistle, Brite Sunny Day and Jetinto Houston) and the $350,000 Franks Farm
Filly and Mare Turf (Lil Sister Stich, Elaine's Angel, Serene in Seattle
and Top of Our Game). Only two Cal-breds (Judge Swiss and
Excessivepleasure) entered the $250,000 Ocala Stud Dash, which at seven
has the smallest field size of the eight races.
Ten Cal-breds are entered in the
$250,000 John Deere Oaks at Santa Anita (Valentine Dancer, Humorous Lady,
Buttertart, Thunder's Echo, Forthelifeofme, Long Term Wish, Miss Nicolie,
Pocketfullofpesos, My Kai and also-eligible Stonecoldfox). Nine of the 11
horses entered in the $250,000 Fed Ex Sprint at Santa Anita are Cal-breds
(Debonair Joe, Jersey Rebel, Giovannetti, Disturbingthepeace, Joey Franco,
Echo Eddie, Ride and Shine, Men's Exclusive and Lennyfromalibu).
The $750,000 Vessels Stallion Farm
Distaff is evenly split between the states for horses drawing into the
race, with California represented by Castling, Shalini, Cee's Elegance,
Theresa's Year, Nicole's Pursuit and Bob's Lady.
The $500,000 Barretts/CTBA Turf
also is evenly split, with California represented by Spinelessjellyfish,
Ninebanks, Gobi Dan, Lucky Molar, Adminniestrator and Turkish Prize.
Cal-bred Surprize Halo is the also-eligible.
Beginning at noon (PT), NBC will
televise three races live: the $250,000 Padua Stables Filly and Mare Dash,
the $500,000 Barretts/CTBA Turf and the $1 million Ocala Breeders Sales
Classic.
