Sunshine Cal-breds Collect $752,400
ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 25, 2003) - Led by Adminniestrator's nose victory in the $500,000 Barretts/CTBA Turf, California-breds won $752,400 Saturday in the inaugural Sunshine Millions.
We were very pleased overall with the event as the exposure for California-breds was tremendous," said Doug Burge, executive vice president and general manager of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association.
"The races did prove competitive and the full fields were well received by the betting public as the handle was nearly $20 million. Granted, we are disappointed that Cal-breds didn't win more races, however, besides the win in the Turf we did have three seconds and two thirds. But it
just wasn't our day for victories. We will get them next year!"
In addition to Adminniestrator's $262,900 purse, Cee's Elegance was second for $149,600 and Nicole's Pursuit was fifth for $37,500 in the Vessels Stallion Farm Distaff; Grey Memo was third for $120,000 in the $1 million Ocala Sales Company Classic; Humorous Lady was third for $30,000
and Stonecoldfox was fifth for $10,000 in the $250,000 John Deere Oaks; Men's Exclusive was second for $50,000, Echo Eddie was fourth for $20,000 and Joey Franco was fifth for $10,000 in the FedEx Sprint; Excessivepleasure was second for $50,000 and Judge Swiss was fourth for $20,000 in the Ocala Stud Dash
