PLEASANTON, Calif. (Sept. 25, 2007) – A colt by Siberian Summer
selling for $40,000 topped Tuesday’s 2007 Northern California Yearling
Sale.
The sale, the fourth presented in its current format by the
California Thoroughbred Breeders Association at the Alameda County
Fairgrounds, grossed $899,200 with 154 individuals sold and 83 bought
back. The average was $5,839 and the median was $4,000. Last year’s sale
averaged $8,192 with a median of $4,000.
Tuesday’s sale-topper was out of the Hansel mare La Charita,
consigned by Green Acre Stables (Jack and Barb Hatch), Agent for breeder
Lercari Thoroughbreds, and was purchased by Richard Franco. The
second-highest purchase was a colt by Rainbow Blues, out of the Treasure
Kay mare Ciste, consigned by breeder C-Punch Ranch and purchased for
$35,000 by Curt and Lila Lanning.
Last year’s sale-topper was a colt by Benchmark, out of the
stakes-placed Crafty Prospector mare Crafty Belle, bred by Marty and Pam
Wygod, consigned by River Edge Farm, Agent, and purchased by Harry Aleo
for $72,000. Last year’s sale has produced 16 2-year-old winners,
including multiple stakes winner Run Brother Ron.
