NorCal Yearling Sale Sept. 25 PLEASANTON, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2007) -- ARCADIA, Calif. (Feb. 16, 2007) -- The date for the 2007 Northern California Yearling Sale has been set for Sept. 25, more than a month later than last year’s sale. The delay is due to the stabling of horses at the sales site of the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton during the installation of the new synthetic racing surface at Golden Gate. Entries for the sale close July 9, 2007. Last year’s sale, the third since it was re-established by the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association, set records for highest-priced yearling ($72,000) and highest average ($8,200). The average in 2005 was $7,600. Graduates from the 2004 Sale have earned close to $1,865,000 and include Champion California-bred 3-Year-Old Female “Bai and Bai,” bred by Mares’ Nest, owned by George V. Vinson & Harry Wilson and trained by William Delia, with earnings more than $300,000. Bai and Bai just finished second in the La Canada S. Grade 2 at Santa Anita on Sunday, February 11. Graduates from the 2005 Sale have earned close to $700,000, including Katispsublue (Comic Strip-A New Life), bred by Dick and Nancy Probert & Bob Cowley and owned by Mike Shustek, trained by Craig Dollase, with earnings of $64,000. Also, stakes winner Sharona (Lord Carson -Holiday Sale), bred by Jack & Barb Hatch and owned by George Schmitt and Philip Lebherz, trained by Jeff Bonde, with earnings of $99,000 and stakes winner Super Image (High Brite - To B. Super), bred by Vessels Stallion Farm LLC and owned by Edward and Theresa DeNike, trained by Lloyd Mason with earnings of $64,000. Start making your plans now for the upcoming sale.
