Deeper Catalog for NorCal Sale

PLEASANTON, Calif. (Aug. 1, 2005) – In only its second year, the Northern California Yearling Sale reflects the quality and depth of the state’s breeding program.

This year’s sale, conducted by the California Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association, will be held Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, beginning at 11 a.m.

There are 249 yearlings catalogued this year, compared to 195 last year, and Black Type is plentiful. Eighteen of the available yearlings are out of stakes-winning dams and 15 have stakes-winning siblings.

Four of the yearlings are double-qualifiers, being out of a stakes-winning mare and a sibling to a stakes winner.

Hip 14, a colt by first-crop sire Tribal Rule, is out of the multiple stakes winner Love Conquers All and is a half-brother to Devoted Pirate, a multiple stakes winner of $356,891.

Hip 22, a colt by Royal Cat, is out of multiple stakes winner Margaret’s Native and is a half-brother to Market Garden, a multiple stakes winner of $363,958.

Hip 114, a colt by Swiss Yodeler, is out of the stakes winner Thanks Tissar and is a half-brother to Dexter Drive, winner of the Quicken Tree Stakes and $219,255.

Hip 120, a filly by Lacey Evitan, is out of the stakes winner Tiza and is a half-sister to Bold Mango, a stakes winner of $175,367, and to Tiza Royal Cat, a $47,000 purchase and the topper to last year’s inaugural Northern California Yearling Sale.
