Yearling Sale Average Up
PLEASANTON, Calif. (Aug. 16,
2005) – Tuesday’s 2005 Northern California Yearling Sale showed an
increase in average sale price of 10.3 percent, with a colt by Bertrando
topping the sale at $50,000.
The sale, presented by the
California Thoroughbred Breeders Association at the Alameda County
Fairgrounds, grossed $1,243,500 with 164 individuals sold and 63 bought
back. The average was $7,582 and the median was $4,000. Last year’s
sale, the first conducted in the region by the CTBA in more than a
decade, averaged $6,874 with a median of $4,350.
Tuesday’s sale-topper, out of
the Storm Cat mare Sweet Paradise, was consigned by River Edge Farm,
Agent, and purchased by Super Horse Inc. Last year’s sale-topper was a
colt by Royal Cat, out of the stakes-winning Wajima mare Tiza, that sold
for $47,000 to Jeff Bonde.
A Swiss Yodeler colt, out of
the Cahill Road mare Dreamy, was the second-highest price Tuesday at
$45,000. He is a full brother to multiple winner Luzern. He was
consigned by Pepper Oaks Farm, Agent, and purchased by Bill Wilbur.
The highest price paid for a
filly was $25,000 for a daughter of Lord Carson, out of the Boundary
mare Holiday Sale, consigned by Green Acres Stables, Agent, and
purchased by Sierra Sunset.
