Melair Having a Final Fling?
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Apr. 24, 2008) -
Grade III winner Final Fling is the likely heavy favorite in Sunday’s
$200,000 Melair Stakes for 3-year-old California-bred fillies on the
Gold Rush card at Hollywood Park.
Gambler’s Justice is by Lit de
Justice, out of the Diesis mare Monte Carlo Miss, was bred by Suarez
Racing, was foaled at Magali Farms, is owned by Craig, Halo Farms and
Magerman and is trained by Bill Spawr. The $70,000 Barretts purchase has
two wins in five starts, earnings of $71,320 and is coming off a sixth
in a Mar. 20 allowance.
Santa Ysabel Stakes winner Final
Fling is by Bertrando, out of the Java Gold mare Lily La Belle, was bred
by William Peeples, was foaled at Loeb Ranch, is owned by Michael House
and is trained by Ral Ayers. The $100,000 Barretts purchase has two wins
in five starts, earnings of $140,814 and is coming off a third in the
Mar. 8 Santa Anita Oaks.
Tail Spin Topper is by Old Topper,
out of the Jolie’s Halo mare Senority, was bred by and foaled at Tommy
Town Thoroughbreds, is owned by Hollendorfer, Todaro, Schlaich and is
trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. She has three wins in 13 starts, earnings
of $98,985 and is coming off a win in the Feb. 29 optional claimer.
Ice Lady is by Cat Thief, out of
the Aflett mare Numbero Uno, was bred by and foaled at Shields
Thoroughbreds and is owned by Venneri Racing. The $52,000 Barretts
purchase has three wins in eight starts, earnings of $76,576 and is
coming off a fifth in the Apr. 12 Bay Meadows Oaks.
High Performance is by Ride the
Rails, out of the Thunder Gulch mare Brilliant Thunder, was bred by
owner Tailwind Racing, was foaled at Golden Eagle Farm and is trained by
Doug O’Neill. She was 11th in her only race Apr. 4.
Hottodi is by Unusual Heat, out of
the Equalize mare Pantaleta, was bred by Currin & Eisman, is owned by
DeHaven Children Trust and is trained by Nick Canani. She has two wins
in six starts, earnings of $34,760 and is coming off a win when claimed
for $25,000 Mar. 16.
Bel Air Sizzle is by Unusual Heat,
out of the Runaway Groom mare Bel Air Belle, was bred by owners Abrams,
Loverso and Auerbach, was foaled at Old English Rancho and is trained by
Barry Abrams. She has two wins in seven starts, earnings of $98,600 and
is coming off a third in the Apr. 4 Providencia Stakes.
Warren’s Appeal is by Bartok, out
of the Ruhlmann mare Ruhloverbeethoven, was bred by owner Benjamin
Warren, was foaled at Warren’s Thoroughbreds and is trained by Jorge
Gutierrez. She has one win in 12 starts, earnings of $37,288 and is
coming off a fourth in an Apr. 17 starter’s allowance.
