INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Apr. 29, 2007) – California Cup Mile winner Epic Power held off a wave of closers to win Sunday’s $150,000 TVG Khaled Stakes for California-breds on Hollywood Park’s Gold Rush VIII card.

Epic Power is by Epic Honor, out of the Eighty Below Zero mare Petite n Powerful, was bred by Richard Meister and is owned by La Canada Stable. He was trained by Jack Carava and ridden by Corey Nakatani.

Claimed for $40,000 last year, he has 11 wins in 47 starts, earnings of $511,372 and was coming off a second in a Mar. 25 overnight handicap. He ran the 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:47.40.

Defending champion Running Free was second and Jack’s Wild, fourth in the race last year, was third.
