TVG Khaled Draws Cal Cup Winner

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Apr. 24, 2007) – Former winner Running Free and California Cup Mile winner Epic Power are among the nine California-breds entered in Sunday’s $150,000 TVG Khaled Stakes on Hollywood Park’s Gold Rush VIII card.

Stakes winner Bedlam Bertie is by Game Plan, out of the Sunny’s Halo mare Beaming Smile, was bred by Carl Wilson and is owned by Patricia Ford. The Barretts graduate has four wins in 13 starts, earnings of $198,054 and is coming off a fourth in the Mar. 17 Crystal Water.

California Cup Mile winner Epic Power is by Epic Honor, out of the Eighty Below Zero mare Petite n Powerful, was bred by Richard Meister and is owned by La Canada Stable. He has 10 wins in 46 starts, earnings of $411,372 and is coming off a second in a Mar. 25 overnight handicap.

Hockey the General is by General Meeting, out of the Chief’s Crown mare Tiara Glow, was bred by Betty Mabee and is owned by Natalie Baffert. The $10,000 Barretts purchase has four wins in 13 starts, earnings of $208,740 and is coming off a sixth in the Crystal Water.

Jack’s Wild is by Lil Tyler, out of the Affirmed mare It’s Binnice, was bred by Madera Thoroughbreds and Kjelstrom and is owned by Venneri Racing. He has three wins in 24 starts, earnings of $245,167 and is coming off a win in the Crystal Water. He was fourth in this race last year.

Lainie’s Lion is by Lord Carson, out of the Turkoman mare Lady Taba, was bred by Fred Sahadi and is owned by Gordon Bithell and Robert Reseigne. The $45,000 Barretts graduate has three wins in 13 starts, earnings of $122,010 and is coming off a Mar. 24 allowance win.

Running Free is by Soft Gold, out of the Mukaddamah mare Baby Grand and was bred by owner Southern Nevada Racing Stable. He has six wins in 27 starts, earnings of $430,492 and is coming off a ninth in the Jan. 27 Sunshine Millions Turf. He won this race in 2005.

Sentimental Daze is by Lil Tyler, out of the Nasty and Bold mare Luv My Lou, was bred by Madera Thoroughbreds and is owned by Dreyfus, Groff, Hasson, et al. He has three wins in 13 starts, earnings of $80,020 and is coming off a seventh in a Mar. 17 allowance.

Super Strut is by Lil Tyler, out of the Torsion mare Miss Chez Cheveaux, was bred by Madera Thoroughbreds and is owned by A&R Stables, Class Racing Stable, Miller, et al. He has six wins in 29 starts, earnings of $455,388 and is coming off a third in the Crystal Water. The Barretts graduate was third in this race last year.

Swift Winds is by King of the Hunt, out of the Time for a Change mare Chatter Box and was bred by owner Jack Burk. He has four wins in 14 starts, earnings of $100,790 and is coming off a fifth in a Mar. 31 allowance.
