Lava Man in TVG Khaled Test

Lava Man
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Apr. 27, 2006) –
Multiple Grade I winner Lava Man didn’t scare off the competition, as a
field of nine California-breds will line up in Sunday’s $150,000 TVG
Khaled Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on the Hollywood Park turf course during Gold
Rush Day.
Lava Man is by Slew City Slew, out
of the Nostalgia’s Star mare Li’l Ms. Leonard, was bred by Arterburn,
Kuhlmann & Kuhlmann and is owned by STD Racing Stable or Wood. He has nine
wins in 29 starts, earnings of $2,184,706 and is coming off consecutive
wins in million-dollar races, the Sunshine Millions Classic and Santa
Anita Handicap. Once claimed for $50,000, he finished eighth in the Snow
Chief Stakes on Gold Rush Day two years ago and was sixth in the Tiznow
Stakes on Gold Rush Day last year. He is 3-for-9 on turf, but his last
grass win was almost two years ago.
Cheroot is by Smokester, out of the
Far North mare Triple Connection and was bred by owner Charlotte Wrather.
He has four wins in 16 starts, earnings of $210,752 and is coming off a
third in the Mar. 25 Golden Gate Fields Handicap.
Super Strut is by Lil Tyler, out of
the Torsion mare Miss Chez Cheveaux, was bred by Madera Thoroughbreds and
is owned by A&R Stables, Class Racing, Miller, et al. He has six wins in
20 starts, earnings of $328,382 and is coming off a win in the Mar. 19
Crystal Water. All six of his wins are on turf.
Skywalker Red is by Skywalker, out
of the Flying Paster mare Beautiful Redhead, was bred by Mr. and Mrs.
Barton Heller and is owned by Beinstock, Eric Stables & Winner. The
$72,000 Barretts purchase has three wins in 24 starts, earnings of
$234,444 and is making his first start since finishing fourth in this race
last year. All three of his wins are on turf.
Orbits World is by Unusual Heat,
out of the Half a Year mare Style of the Year and was bred by owner
Madeline Auerbach. He has two wins in 23 starts, earnings of $190,676 and
is coming off a fifth in the Mar. 19 Crystal Water. He is a full brother
to Lennyfromalibu, who dead-heated for second in this race in 2004.
Top This and That is by Old Topper,
out of the Theatrical mare Emmy Ann, was bred by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds
and is owned by Hayes, Hayes, Higman, et. Al. He has four wins in 15
starts, earnings of $231,452 and is coming off a second in the Feb. 4
Strub Stakes. Once claimed for $40,000, he has one win on turf.
Lil Mitch is by Lil Tyler, out of
the Nijinsky’s Secret mare Asta Pasta, was bred by jack Weinstein and is
owned by M R M Stables. He has two wins in 12 starts, earnings of $87,760
and is coming off a seventh in the Mar. 19 Crystal Water.
Jack’s Wild is by Lil Tyler, out of
the Affirmed mare It’s Binnice, was bred by Madera Thoroughbreds and is
owned by Venneri Racing. He has two wins in 16 starts, earnings of
$117,081 and is coming off a second in an Apr. 6 optional claimer.
Legal Logic is by Bertrando, out of
the Pirate’s Bounty mare Fleeting Image, was bred by Marty and Pam Wygod
and is owned by Lawrence Keh. He has five wins in 31 starts, earnings of
$231,420 and is coming off a sixth in an Apr. 22 $50,000 claimer. Claimed
for $10,000 four races back, he was third in this race last year.
