INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Apr. 24, 2005) – Running Free used a rail trip around the turn to take the lead from Skywalker Red, then held off millionaire Continental Red to win Sunday’s $150,000 TVG Khaled Stakes for California-breds on the Gold Rush VI card at Hollywood Park.
Running Free is by Soft Gold, out of the Mukaddamah mare Baby Grand and was bred by owner Southern Nevada Racing Stable. He has five wins in 15 starts, earnings of $283,604 and was coming off a second in an Apr. 8 allowance.
Running Free was trained by Kristin Mulhall, her second win on the card, and ridden by Victor Espinoza.
Continental Red, who dead-heated for second in this race a year ago, was second and Legal Logic was third.
Running Free ran the 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:48 and won by three-quarters of a length at odds of 3-1.
