INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Apr. 24, 2004) – Del Mar Yearling Sales graduate Beau Soleil outlasted a spirited duel with millionaire Excessivepleasure to capture the second running of the $150,000 Tiznow Stakes for California-breds on the Gold Rush V card at Hollywood Park. Beau Soleil is by General Meeting, out of the Far North mare Triple Connection, was bred by Charlotte Wrather and is owned by Bone & Mack. He was a $21,000 purchase at the 2001 Del Mar Yearling Sale. The win was Beau Soleil’s third in the last four races and fifth in 11 starts overall, with earnings of $275,200. It was his stakes debut and he ran the 7 ½ furlongs in 1:27.52, a half-second faster than Joey Franco clocked in last year’s inaugural running. It was his third win in as many tries at this distance on this track. Beau Soleil was ridden by Victor Espinoza and trained by Jeff Mullins. He won by two lengths at odds of 4-5. Excessivepleasure was second and Ride and Shine was third.
