INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Apr. 24, 2004) – A persistent Brand Name wore down Irish Ty in the final jumps to win Saturday’s $60,000 Pepper Oaks Farm Stakes for maidens on the Gold Rush V card at Hollywood Park. The debuting Brand Name is a 3-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song, out of the Dixieland Band mare Nicciolina, was bred by Donald & Mary Zuckerman and owned by James McIngvale, who bought the colt as a yearling for $100,000 at Keeneland in 2002. Brand Name was the second win on the card for the combination of jockey Corey Nakatani and trainer Bob Baffert, the latter adding to his Gold Rush record of wins at six. They also won the Melair Stakes with Yearly Report. Brand Name ran the 6 ½ furlongs in 1:15.52 at odds of 5-1. Irish Ty was second and Perfect Mode was third.
