INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Apr. 24, 2004) – Royally Chosen held off a furious closing rush from Summer Wind Dancer to win Saturday’s $150,000 B. Thoughtful Stakes for California-bred fillies and mares in stakes-record time on the Gold Rush V card at Hollywood Park. Royally Chosen is a multiple stakes-winning daughter of In Excess, out of the King of Kings mare Her Royalty, was bred by Old English Rancho and Headley and owned by Abruzzo, Johnston, Zehnni, et al. She ran the seven furlongs in 1:21.43, besting Censored’s 1999 mark of 1:21.49. She went off the second choice at 9-2. Royally Chosen was ridden by Alex Solis and trained by Bruce Headley. The $90,000 first-place purse raised her career earnings to $447,638. In 17 starts, she has five wins, including the Kalookan Queen Handicap and California Cup Matron Handicap. Summer Wind Dancer, the 6-5 favorite, was second and Tucked Away third. High weight and morning-line favorite Bear Fan was scratched.
