Hoovergetthekeys, Takin It Deep
Could Meet in Snow Chief Stakes
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 22, 2001) - A potential matchup of northern California stakes winners Hoovergetthekeys and Takin It Deep would create added interest in the $250,000 Snow Chief Stakes, the richest race on the $1.26 million Gold Rush Day card Saturday at Hollywood Park.
Entries for the eight races will be taken Wednesday, a day earlier than usual. Martin Panza, racing secretary, said the probable list for the Snow Chief includes Hoovergetthekeys, winner of the El Camino Real and Golden Gate Derbies, as well as Takin It Deep, upset winner of last weekend's California Derby. Takin It Deep will work Tuesday and a decision will be made after that.
Panza said the Snow Chief also could lure Cherokee Kim, Flags At Dawn, Full Strike, New York shipper My Two Sons, Noble Kinsman, Romanceishope, Starring Willy and Upsanddowns. The Snow Chief will be run at 1 1/8 miles.
In the $175,000 Khaled Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on the turf, millionaire Native Desert will take on defending Khaled champion Spinelessjellyfish and 2000 Snow Chief champion Grey Memo. Others Panza listed as probable are Incitatus, Lesters Boy, Lily's Lad and Macward.
The marathon $100,000 Quicken Tree Stakes at 1 ˝ miles on the turf could include Adminniestrator, Astra Ridge, Continental Red, Daring General or Golden General, Grazious Prize, Inter Zone, Lucky Molar, Meet Me in Dixie and Ringaskiddy.
Multiple stakes winner Warren's Whistle leads the list for the $15,000 Melair Stakes. Also looking at the race are Bafferta, Bar Breeze, Because of You, Channing Way, Comedy Class, Exquisite Woman, Glaringray and Jenna's Joy.
Sizing up the $70,000 Merial Stakes are Continental Stitch, GL's Gold Strike, L.A. Fitz, Mr. Joe C, Spanish Ranch and Valiant Wonder.
On the distaff side, the $175,000 Fran's Valentine Stakes has a solid lineup: 1998 Del Mar Sales grad Cover Gal, Excessively Hot, Kinky Kinky, Mimi's Café, Rare Charmer, She's Grand, Shoe Crazy, Top of Our Game and Yes We Do.
In the $150,000 B. Thoughtful Stakes, Panza is looking for Bountiful Pirate, Dusty Heather, Fair Apache, Image of Glory, Pert Laura, Phaenna, Song of Summer, Wingless Flight and 2000 Melair Stakes champion Wired to Fly.
The $70,000 Lakeview Thoroughbred Farms Stakes could feature Cee's Elegance, Glittering Affair, Kalihi Maggie, Miss Bank Robin, Maid of Ice, Remember Dorothy, Stefandrew, The Heebster, Tiza Tanzanite and Tizzified.
Panza said the two $60,000 maiden stakes should fill to the maximum.
