Cal-Bred Sophs Head Gold Rush II Festival On April 28

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 12, 2001) - Moved on the racing calendar from the Spring/Summer Meet's first Sunday to its second Saturday, Hollywood Park's second Gold Rush Day - a celebration of ten stakes races for California-breds worth over $1.25 million - will unfold on April 28, augmented by a Pick Six guarantee of $1 million and the giveaway of a polo shirt bearing the California Gold Rush II logo.
The array of stakes races is headed by the $250,000 Snow Chief for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles. Possible entrants include such promising local sophomores as Cherokee Kim and Jamaican Rum. My Two Sons, an outstanding Cal-bred who has been successfully campaigning in New York, is scheduled to ship west for the rich race. Trainer Bob Baffert is considering several of his 3-year-olds including Sham Stakes winner Wild And Wise.
Multiple stakes-winner Road to Slew is among those on track for the $175,000 Khaled Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf for 4-year-olds and up. The $175,000 Fran's Valentine, the Khaled's counterpart for fillies and mares, could bring out Irish O'Brien stakes winner La Feminn.
Although last year's inaugural Gold Rush Day was warmly embraced by the public, the later date for its renewal is expected generate more exposure for the festive occasion that offers fans a special Turf Club package deal.
The package in the exclusive Turf Club includes a grand buffet, open bar, valet parking and Turf Club admission and seating along with a commemorative Gold Rush pin and the Gold Rush II polo shirt. Cost is $75 for individuals or $700 for a table of ten.
The collared Gold Rush II polo shirt, which will be distributed to the first 20,000 fans with a paid admission, comes in a choice of blue or gold blended into a 100 percent pique knit with the official Gold Rush II logo embroidered onto the shirt.
First post on Gold Rush Day, as on all weekends and holidays, will be 1 p.m. The 66-day Spring/Summer Meet at Hollywood Park continues through July 16.
