Del Mar Yearling Sale Shoots For Stars
The very best thoroughbred breeders have to offer will also be on display at the Del Mar Yearling Sale August 14 and 15 at the Del Mar Horsepark. These select yearlings are some of the finest equine athletes to be assembled for auction in California. The sale will feature future stars by top nationally ranked stallions including Bertrando, In Excess (Ire) and General Meeting.
With California's ever-popular $30 million dollar incentive and racing program, the depth and quality of the California-bred marketplace is now unparalleled. Racing opportunities for Cal-breds are as plentiful as they are lucrative. The Cal-bred program includes $15 million in restricted racing including 64 stakes worth a record $6.4 million.
Having stood the test of time since the 1950's, the Del Mar Yearling Sale has produced more than 200 stakes winners. In recent years, the sale's reputation has continued to escalate as have the sale's average prices. The 1999 Del Mar Yearling Sale achieved the highest average in sale history and its gross sales showed nearly a 50% increase over the previous year.
