Notes From the Del Mar Sale Selection Team
The Del Mar Yearling Sale Inspection Evaluation Committee has extended invitations to 160 yearlings for this years sale. The committee spent half of the day on Tuesday, May 18, reviewing and discussing each of the 350 nominees for this years sale. "The selection process was very difficult this year, stated CTBA General Manager Doug Burge, this is this best group of nominees we have had in a very long time." Nominators have been contacted as to the status of their yearlings' acceptance to the sale, with final entries due the first of June. "With such an increased demand for quality California-breds, this years sale should be something very special, stated Burge, 139 of the 160 yearlings invited are Cal-breds (87%)."

Notes from the Del Mar Sale Inspection Team
The Del Mar Yearling Sale inspection team recently began their annual trek across the state reviewing 340+ yearlings who have been nominated to this year sale (held August 16 & 17 at the Del Mar Horsepark). Successful trainer Richard Matlow again leads the inspections, accompanied by CTBA General Manager, Doug Burge. Inspections have been nearly completed in Southern California, with visits to the Santa Ynez Valley, San Luis Obispo county, and the Central Valley to be visited early next week (May 3rd-5th).
The Northern California area will once again be the last location for physical evaluations, with the entire process scheduled to be completed by May 18th. The CTBA Sales Selection Committee will then review the pedigrees of the individuals who received a minimum conformation score to determine those who will be selected to the sale.
Thus far, 135 yearlings have been inspected and the prospects look very good. This is by far the best group of yearlings we have had nominated to the sale (both on pedigree and conformation) in a long time, if not ever.
