GENTLE CHARMER
ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 3, 2007) –
Gentle Charmer, second-longest shot in the race at 54-1, stormed from far
back in the middle of the track to score a stunning two-length win in
Saturday’s $150,000 John Deere California Cup Distaff for fillies and
mares at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.
Gentle Charmer is a 5-year-old by
Bertrando, out of the Great Charmer mare Triple Charm, making her a full
sister to multiple stakes winner Strategically.
She was bred by Marty and Pam Wygod,
was foaled at River Edge Farm and is owned by Curt and Lila Lanning. She
was ridden by Kyle Kyle Kaenel and trained by Ed Moger Jr. Her $110 win
payoff is a Cal Cup record.
The $17,000 Barretts purchase has
seven wins in 29 starts, earnings of $344,313 and was coming off a seventh
in the Oct. 6 Autumn Leaves. She was ninth in this race in 2005.
Gentle Charmer ran the distance of
about 6 ½ furlongs on the downhill turf course in 1:12.31. Lady Gamer was
second and Excessiveobsession was third.
