SWITZERLAND
ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 3, 2007) –
Switzerland got California Cup XVIII off to a sizzling start Saturday,
running the fastest six furlongs in the history of the new Cushion Track
while winning the $50,000 William T. Pascoe III Cal Cup Starter Sprint at
Oak Tree at Santa Anita.
Switzerland is by Swiss Yodeler,
out of the Pentelicus mare Kid Friendly, was bred by David and Elaine
Parks, was foaled at Pepper Oaks Farm and is owned by Arbitrage Stables,
Avila and Johnson. He was ridden by Michael Baze and trained by Michael
Machowsky.
Switzerland broke from the outside
in the seven-horse field, stalked early and took over with a strong move
in mid-stretch for his eighth win in 27 starts for earnings of $172,610.
He was claimed two starts back for $40,000.
Bestdressed finished second and
Lead Stealer was third.
