Epic Power Seeks Repeat in Mile
ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 31, 2007) –
Epic Power will attempt to defend his title in Saturday’s $175,000
California Cup Mile at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.
Epic Power is by Epic Honor, out of
the Eighty Below Zero mare Petite n Powerful, was bred by Richard Meister,
was foaled at Blooming Hills and is owned by La Canada Stable. He has 12
wins in 50 starts, earnings of $594,527 and is coming off a second in the
Aug. 25 California Turf Championship.
Anziyan’s Song is by Anziyan, out
of the Slewpy mare Airsong, was bred by owner Nick Cafarchia and was
foaled at Creston Farm. He has for wins in 17 starts, earnings of $119,944
and is coming off a third in an Oct. 5 optional claimer.
Big Bad Leroybrown is by Wild
Again, out of the Corwyn Bay mare Saboteur, was bred by Wild Again
Partners, Old English Rancho, Berumen, Masry, et al, is owned by Eichler,
Johnston, Masry, et al and was foaled at Old English Rancho. He has three
wins in nine starts, earnings of $172,000 and is coming off a win in an
Oct. 5 allowance.
Dadsalittleunusual is by Unusual
Heat, out of the Golden Gear mare Dadslittlemaria, bred by owners David
Abrams and Tom Roberts and was foaled at Old English Rancho. He has three
wins in 19 starts, earnings of $160,716 and is coming off a third in an
Oct. 6 optional claimer.
Gaddingabout is by Epic Honor, out
of the Capote mare Garbo, was bred by and foaled at Blooming Hills and is
owned by Tons of Fun Stable, Fields and Nevarov. The $23,000 Barretts
purchase has six wins in 28 starts, earnings of $177,045 and is coming off
a sixth in the Hinds Invitational.
Jack’s Wild is by Lil Tyler, out of
the Affirmed mare It’s Binnice, was bred by Madera Thoroughbreds &
Kjelstrom, was foaled at Madera Thoroughbreds and is owned by Venneri
Racing. He has four wins in 30 starts, earnings of $360,930 and is coming
off a second in the Bay Meadows Breeders’ Cup Handicap. He was sixth in
the 2005 Cal Cup Sprint.
Joy’s Comet is by Comet Shine, out
of the Banquet Table mare Joy’s Party, was bred by Ellen Jackson, foaled
at Victory Rose and is owned by Jeffrey Sengara. He has four wins in 11
starts, earnings of $102,195 and is coming off a second in a Sept. 29
allowance.
Now Victory is by Sharp Victor, out
of the Dynaformer mare Zoelu, was bred by and foaled at Harris Farms and
is owned by Harris Farms and Antonsen. He has seven wins in 23 starts,
earnings of $352,046 and is coming off a win in the Sept. 22 Bay Meadows
Breeders Cup Handicap.
Super Strut is by Lil Tyler, out of
the Torsion mare Miss Chez Cheveaux, was bred by and foaled at Madera
Thoroughbreds and is owned by A and R Stables, Class Racing Stable,
Miller, et al. The Barretts graduate has six wins in 32 starts, earnings
of $473,084 and is making his first start since a fifth in the June 30
Korbel. He was third in this race last year and sixth in 2005
Swift Winds is by King of the Hunt,
out of the Time for a Change mare Chatter Box, was bred by owner Jack Burk
and was foaled at E A Ranches. He has four wins in 18 starts, earnings of
$112,228 and is coming off a seventh in an Aug. 12 allowance.
Unusual Suspect is by Unusual Heat,
out of the Crested Wave mare Penpont, was bred by David Abrams, was foaled
at Old English Rancho and is owned by Barry, David and Dyan Abrams. He has
four wins in 17 starts, earnings of $274,136 and is coming off a fourth in
the Oct. 13 Oak Tree Derby.
Zoning In is by Bertrando, out of
the Slew’s Royalty mare Miss Inn Zone, was bred by Marty and Pam Wygod,
foaled at River Edge Farm and is owned Curt and Lila Lanning. The $17,000
Barretts purchase has three wins in 15 starts, earnings of $239,722 and is
coming off a third in the Sept. 29 Bay Meadows Derby.
