ROMANCE IS DIANE

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 28, 2006) – Romance is Diane, a full sister to Grade II winner Romanceishope, took command straightening for home and won Saturday’s $125,000 Robert H. Walter California Cup Juvenile Fillies at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.

Romance is Diane is by In Excess, out of the Prized mare Romantic Fibs, was bred by Swan Equine Service and is owned by Senji Nishimura. She won her second start Oct. 6 at a mile.

Romance is Diane was trained by Mike Mitchell, who also won the Cal Cup Classic with Texcess, and was ridden by Pat Valenzuela. She ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.86 and won by two lengths at odds of 9-2.

Swiss Current was second and Kiss the Cooke was third in the field of 10.

“We knew she wanted to run long,” said Mitchell. “She showed that breaking her maiden. She’s getting stronger in her gallops and workouts.”
