$125,000 Bob Benoit Cal Cup Juvenile
FREESGOOD

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 28, 2006) – Longshot Freesgood took over in late stretch and held off the fast-closing Pirates Deputy to win Saturday’s $125,000 Bob Benoit California Cup Juvenile for 2-year-olds at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.

Freesgood is by Free House, out of the Housebuster mare Fun Project and was bred by owners Currin and Eisman. He was coming off an Oct. 4 maiden win at a mile in his third career start. The victory raised his career earnings to $102,100.

Freesgood was trained by William Currin and ridden by Alex Solis, who earlier won the Cal Cup Distance Handicap aboard Special Heather.

Going off at 12-1, Freesgood ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.72 and won by one length ahead of Pirates Deputy, with Turquoise N Gold finishing third. The time was the slowest for the stakes since 1992.
