Favored Wind Water outdueled lone filly Yodeladytoo down the backstretch
and kept going to win Saturday’s $50,000 William T. Pascoe III California
Cup Starter Sprint Handicap at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.
The 4-year-old gelding is by Bold
Badgett, out of the French Deputy mare Feng Shui, was bred by S L U Inc.
and is owned by Koriner or Lyons or S L U Inc., having been claimed for
$40,000 two races back. He has nine wins in 27 starts and earnings of
$353,535.
Wind Water, the 3-2 choice, ran the
six furlongs in 1:09.41 and won by 1½ lengths, with Bradford closing for
second and Yodeladytoo finishing third. Wind Water was trained by Brian
Koriner and ridden by Aaron Gryder.
