Phar to Win Risks Streak in Starter

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2006) –
Phar to Win brings a three-race win streak into Saturday’s $50,000
California Cup Starters Handicap at Oak Tree at Santa Anita, a race in
which half-brothers line up next to each other.
Glimmering Pete is by Larry the
Legend, out of the Moscow Ballet mare Glimmering and was bred by owners
Robert Englebrecht, Craig Lewis and Mira Loma Thoroughbred Farm. He has
one win in eight starts, earnings of $33,120 and is coming off a second in
a Sept. 27 starter’s allowance.
Phar to Win is by Avenue of Flags,
out of the Night Shift mare Doucette, was bred by C-Punch Ranch and is
owned by Thomas Bell. He has a three-race win streak in four starts and
earnings of $70,090.
Dadsalittleunusual is by Unusual
Heat, out of the Golden Gear mare Dadslittlemaria and was bred by owners
Abrams and Roberts. He had two wins in eight starts, earnings of $61,454
and is coming off a fifth in a $62,500 claimer.
Johnny High Brite is by High Brite,
out of the Falstaff mare Code It Nikki, was bred by Briere Thoroughbreds
and is owned by B G Stable or Royalty Stable. He has two wins in 19
starts, earnings of $121,984 and is coming off a second in a Sept. 28
optional claimer.
Final Finale is by Smokester, out
of the African Sky mare Sundiata, was bred by Darlene Shoemaker and is
owned by La Canada Stables. He has eight wins in 38 starts, earnings of
$162,012 and is coming off a fourth in an Oct. 11 $25,000 claimer. He is
the half-brother to Tonco.
Tonco is by Flying Continental, out
of the African Sky mare Sundiata, was bred by Darlene Shoemaker and is
owned by Armando Lage. He has six wins in 63 starts, earnings of $297,045
and is coming off a fourth in a Sept. 29 $32,000 claimer. He is the
half-brother to Final Finale.
Master Heat is by Unusual Heat, out
of the Crested Wave mare Penpont and was bred by owners Abrams, Fiorito,
Loverso. He has four wins in 29 starts, earnings of $110,622 and is coming
off a fifth in an Oct. 14 $32,000 claimer.
Mr. Chairman is by Unusual Heat,
out of the Corporate Report mare Chairwoman, was bred by Abrams and
Roberts and is owned by Merv Griffin Ranch. He has one win in four starts
and is coming off a third in an Oct. 13 starter’s allowance.
