Moscow Burning Bows Out

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2006) – Moscow Burning, the all-time leading California-bred female, makes her final start Saturday before becoming a broodmare when she tries for her third win in the $100,000 California Cup Distance Handicap for fillies and mares at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.

Moscow Burning is by Moscow Ballet, out of the Mr. Leader mare Burning Desire, was bred by Harris Farms and Ken Maddy Trust and is owned by Don Van Racing. The Grade II winner has 11 wins in 32 starts, earnings of $1,411,800 and is coming off a seventh in the Sept. 30 Yellow Ribbon. She won this race last year and in 2003.

Fun Logic is by Miesque’s Son, out of the Housebuster mare Fun Project, was bred by owners Currin and Eisman. She has two wins in 13 starts, earnings of $120,820 and is coming off a sixth in the Oct. 15 Harold Ramser. She was third in last year’s California Cup Juvenile Fillies.

Janzig Moon is by Iron Cat, out of the Dimaggio mare Jo Jo Dimaggio, was bred by owners Philip and Janice Galarneau. She has three wins in 14 starts, earnings of $103,938 and is coming off a third in the Sept. 3 Solana Beach.

Jill’s Sky is by Skywalker, out of the Moscow Ballet mare Yellow Corn and was bred by owner Toby Turrell. She has three wins in 10 starts, earnings of $132,205 and is coming off a fifth in the Sept. 23 Pacific Heights.

Fortunate Event is by Event of the Year, out of the Wild Again mare Fortunee, was bred by The Thoroughbred Corp. and is owned by Dan Agnew. The $45,000 Barretts purchase has two wins in 23 starts, earnings of $214,638 and is coming off a fifth in the Sept. 10 E.B. Johnston Handicap. She was third in this race last year.

Special Heather is by Truckee, out of the Silver Hawk mare Hawk’s Heather, was bred by Eagle Oak Ranch and is owned by Melanie and Gary Thompson. She has three wins in six starts, earnings of $74,990 and is coming off three consecutive wins.
