$125,000 Robert H. Walter Cal Cup
Juvenile Fillies
BAI AND BAI
ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 6, 2005) –
Northern California Yearling Sales graduate Bai and Bai took over around
the turn and inched away late to victory in Sunday’s $125,000 Robert H.
Walter California Cup Juvenile Fillies at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.
Bai and Bai is by Falstaff, out of
the Fappiano mare Bai Shun, was bred by Mares’ Nest, is owned by Vinson &
Wilson, trained by William Delia (his first Santa Anita stakes victory)
and ridden by Roberto Gonzalez. She has three wins in five starts and
earnings of $114,323.
“I got a perfect trip,” said
Gonzalez. “She relaxed so god, then when I asked her, she gave it to me.
The two wins I got with her, we were trying to school her a little bit
more than just winning the race, because we really through she could go
long. I mean, I was just winning so easy with her. I just couldn’t wait to
go long with her.”
Based in Northern California, Bai
and Bai was coming off a second in the Oct. 9 Carmel Stakes at Bay
Meadows, her first try around two turns. She was purchased for $3,200 and
is the second stakes winner from last September’s Northern California
Yearling Sale and broke her maiden for a $32,000 claiming tag.
Sent off at odds of 8-1, she ran
the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.89 and won by 1 ¾ lengths over favored Sierra
Sweetie (the Carmel Stakes winner), with Fun Logic third.
