$150,000 CTT/TOC Cal Cup Matron
DREAM OF SUMMER

ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 6, 2005) – Grade I winner Dream of Summer became the newest California-bred millionaire Sunday when she successfully defended her $150,000 CTT/TOC California Cup Matron title at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.

Dream of Summer is a 6-year-old mare by Siberian Summer, out of the Skywalker mare Mary’s Dream, was bred by owner James Weigel, trained by Juan Garcia and ridden by Patrick Valenzuela.

“She ran a great race. She has these fillies over a barrel, it seems, and she’s run with some of the best mares in the country. I think she’s easily among the top 10 in the country.”

Her 10th win in 17 starts raised her earnings to $1,041,150, making her the 39th California-bred millionaire. The even-money favorite and high weight on the card at 124 pounds ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.21 and won by 1 ½ lengths. Earlier this year, she won the Grade I Apple Blossom

“I’d like to get one more year of racing from her,” said Weigel, who bought back Dream of Summer at Barretts as a yearling for $8,000 when the bidding failed to reach her $10,000 reserve. “If she starts to go downhill, we’ll breed her.”

House of Fortune, winner of the 2003 Cal Cup Juvenile Fillies, was second and Proposed was third in the seven-horse field.
