Mile Lures El Don
ARCADIA, Calif. (Nov. 3, 2005) – California Turf Championship winner El
Don is the high weight for Sunday’s $175,000 John C. Mabee California Cup
Mile at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.
Exceeding is by In Excess, out of the Something Lucky mare Ms. Something
and was bred by owner Double Bar S Ranch. He has five wins in 11 starts,
earnings of $197,898 and brings in a four-race win streak, most recently
the California Sprint Championship Sept. 24.
American All Star is by American Day, out of the Kingmambo mare Cover
Letter, was bred by John and Betty Mabee and is owned by Dick Jacobson. He
has six wins in 26 starts, earnings of $202,134 and is coming off a
back-to-back wins after being claimed for $40,000.
Panama Lane is by Event of the Year, out of the Affirmed mare Midnite
Mama and was bred by owners Todd and Mandella. He has two wins in seven
starts, earnings of $74,182 and is making his first start since finishing
seventh in the Apr. 24 Snow Chief Stakes.
El Don is by Cee’s Tizzy, out of the Pretense mare Timed Perfectly, was
bred by owners Harris Farms and Don Valpredo. He has five wins in 17
starts, earnings of $268,681 and is coming off a fourth in the Oct. 1 Bay
Meadows Breeders’ Cup Handicap after winning the California Turf
Championship.
Hemet Thought is by Smokester, out of the Chimineas mare Thinker, was
bred by Farrell Jones and is owned by Daniel Bone. He has seven wins in 38
starts, earnings of $366,985 and is coming off a third in the Sept. 5
California Turf Championship. He was second in this race last year.
Rush Country is by Wild Rush, out of the Island Whirl mare Isleo Babe,
was bred by Harris Farms and is owned by JP Stable. He has three wins in
20 starts, earnings of $174,074 and is coming off a fourth in an Oct. 12
allowance.
Charbonnier is by Robannier, out of the Cost Conscious mare Charmalotta
and was bred by owner Walter Family Trust. He has three wins in 14 starts,
earnings of $137,560 and is coming off an Oct. 1 allowance win.
Super Strut is by Lil Tyler, out of the Torsion mare Miss Chez Cheveaux,
was bred by Madera Thoroughbreds and is owned by Class Racing Stable,
Miller or Miller. He has four wins in 15 starts, earnings of $201,822 and
is coming off a third in an Oct. 12 allowance.
Running Free is by Soft Gold, out of the Mukaddamah mare Baby Grand and
was bred by owner Southern Nevada Racing Stable. He has six wins in 19
starts, earnings of $354,576 and is coming off a fifth in the Sept. 5
California Turf Championship.
Sea Harbor is by Slewpy, out of the Irish Stronghold mare Strong and
Willing, was bred by James and Frances Beckett and is owned by Carter or
Keyes or Sbicca et all. He has three wins in 33 starts, earnings of
$190,571 and is coming off a third in a Sept. 7 allowance. He was fourth
in this race last year.
Drake’s Victory is by Victory Gallop, out of the Slew o’ Gold mare
Atocha Queen, was bred by Levy and DeHaven and is owned by Dana Levy. He
has three wins in 13 starts, earnings of $183,036 and is coming off a
three-length win in an Aug. 21 allowance.
Orbits World is by Unusual Heat, out of the Half a Year mare Style of
the Year and was bred by Madeline Auerbach. He has two wins in 15 starts,
earnings of $146,626 and is coming off a sixth in the Oct. 15 Oak Tree
Derby. He is the full brother to 2003 Cal Cup Mile winner Lennyfromalibu.
