Cal Cup Stable Notes

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 29, 2005) -- Candy Factory won four straight races before throwing in a clinker and finishing last in the Springtime Stakes at one mile on turf here Oct. 7.

Mike Machowsky expects significant improvement when the 4-year-old daughter of Seattle Bound runs in the $100,000 California Cup Distance Handicap at 1 1/4 miles on turf in California Cup XVI on Nov. 6.

"I don't think a mile and a quarter should be too difficult," the trainer said. "She's doing great. She ran badly in that overnight stakes, but her blood was out of whack. She was kind of anemic entering the race. She'd been fighting one of those viruses but never had a temperature or anything."

Candy Factory finished last, beaten 10 lengths, in the Swingtime Stakes.

"She worked the other day (Oct. 23) a nice five-eighths in (a bullet) :59," Machowsky said. "Her blood work is real good now so I think we're in good shape."

Victor Espinoza rides the bay filly owned by Rex and Nancy Dahlberg of San Miguel, who race as Dahlberg Farms, LLC. Candy Factor has a 4-0-1 record from eight starts with earnings of $181,720.
