$175,000 John C. Mabee Cal Cup Mile
Preview
ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 24, 2005) --
A to the Z (Benchmark-Green Again, by Replant) can become the first
horse to win the Mile in consecutive years. There have been two two-time
winners of the Mile, but Megan’s Interco (1993 and 1995) and Native
Desert (1999 and 2001) didn’t win back-to-back runnings. Lennyfromalibu
(Unusual Heat-Style of the Year, by Half a Year) could join that duo
with a victory this year to go with his 2003 triumph.
Other Mile contenders include El
Don (Cee’s Tizzy-Timed Perfectly, by Pretense) and Running Free (Soft
Gold-Baby Grand, by Mukaddamah). El Don won the California Turf
Championship at Bay Meadows and Running Free won the Harry Brubaker at
Del Mar.
