Cal Cup Stable Notes

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2005) – Trainer Jim Cassidy said Wednesday that Moscow Burning is pointing to the $100,000 California Cup Distance Handicap at 1 1/4 miles on turf, a race she won in 2003.

"She had some back issues," the trainer said. "That's why I had to stop on her. She hurt her back pretty bad and we did some nuclear scans on her. She tore some vertebrae, we gave her some time off and we brought her back. It's been a long struggle to get her there but if her last work was any indication, she's back."

Kent Desormeaux, who has been working Moscow Burning, rides her in the Cal Cup.

Trainer David Bernstein said Unfurl The Flag is scheduled to work five furlongs Saturday for the $150,000 California Cup Sprint on Nov. 6. Corey Nakatani has the mount in the six-furlong race.
