Win Machines Meet in Cal Cup Starter Sprint

ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 13, 2004) – Smoke Till Dawn risks his five-race win streak and meets unbeaten Ata Olympio in Saturday’s $50,000 William T. Pascoe California Cup Starter Sprint at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.

R Meadow Luck is by Fighting Fit, out of the Meadowlake mare Shesa Calendargirl, was bred by Newton Lee and is owned by D. Wayne Baker. The $6,000 Barretts purchase’s last win was more than two years ago.

Early Cotton is by Smoke Glacken, out of the Moscow Ballet mare Teresa Mc, was bred by Harris Farms and is owned by Don Beardsworth. His last win was in March and most recently he was fifth in a Sept. 26 optional claimer.

Smoke Till Dawn is by Smokester, out of the Fly Till Dawn mare Brainchild, was bred by Bob Altermatt and is owned by Walnut View Farms. He has 13 wins in 33 starts and $161,208 in earnings. After being claimed for $6,250 13 months ago, he has won nine of 12 races.

Ata Olympio is by Olympio, out of the Clever Trick mare Atay, was bred by Eugene Burnison and is owned by Circle B Ranch. He has won all three races, most recently a Sept. 30 allowance.

Dad’s Lessons is by Half Term, out of the Manastash Ridge mare Love Lessons, was bred by Cashmark Farm and is owned by Dr. Joseph Poppler. The $4,000 Barretts purchase’s only win came in his July 2003 debut.

Mysterious Cat is by Distinctive Cat, out of the Mehmet mare Mistical Mist, was bred Jerry Anderson and is owned by Jeffrey Sengara. He has three wins, $197,588 in earnings and was second in the 2002 Grade II San Bernardino Handicap. Most recently he was second in a $25,000 claimer Sept. 13.

Forward March is by Kleven, out of the Stanstead mare Stand Forward, was bred by Ernest Auerbach and is owned by Suarex Racing. He has eight wins in 19 starts and $255,676 in earnings. He won his two most recent starts and was fifth in this race last year.

Four Checker is by Bonus Money, out of the Louisiana Slew mare Tiny Boots, was bred by Ron Gomez and is owned by Gary Barber. The $8,000 Barretts purchase has five wins and $150,523 in earnings.

Magical Dust is by Fabulous Champ, out of the Spectacular Bid mare Bid of Fun, was bred by Dutton and Atwell and is owned by Tsakona and Hess. Claimed for $12,500, he won his two most recent races.
